Paper
by Natasha
There are lots of products with paper like books, magazine, and newspapers. That's what we have today that has paper. We wouldn't have anything to write on if the ancient Chinese didn't make it. Paper got it's name from "papyrus" a reed that the ancient Egyptians used for making writing material. The Chinese invented paper in 100 BC by a guy named Tsai Lun. He invented paper, because he always had something on his mind to remember about and didn't have anything to write on, so he invented paper. When Tsai Lun made his first paper it was made out of a Mulberry tree in his back yard.
These days we usually make paper out of any old tree, but at school we make it out of old newspapers and water. After Tsai Lun invented the paper he reported it to the emperor who then told other countries. In ancient China they would take the Mulberry tree, and grind it till it turned to little flakes of wood. After that they add water, and turn it into pulp. They take a fine lined screen, which strains out all the water leaving it in a paper shape. They leave it to dry. When it is dry you have a piece of paper.
